Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group
Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will separate from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could assist the party enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
