Fans Urge Custody of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of Ariana Grande are demanding that a individual who breached a barrier and grabbed the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video shows the individual from Australia bypassing media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the actors proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly guided the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the event by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being detained", though legal records indicated that he was set to attend court on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Record of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a performance. His Instagram profile contains recordings of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the city last year.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user remarked.
Followers Show Disapproval Over the Star's Safety
Many followers criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented another comment on Instagram.
Several fans also criticised guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others called for online networks to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande looked startled when she was touched by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Many of attendees had assembled in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore mall, including several who had queued for as long as many hours before it started.
The film, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a dual version of the popular Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which centers on the unlikely friendship between two distinct sorceresses.
The production itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful movie of the previous year in the UK, and earned a dozen award recognitions, winning two for excellent wardrobe and production design.
