Helen Mirren Set to Receive Golden Globe Career Honor.
The celebrated English actor Helen Mirren, currently winner of an Academy Award, multiple Bafta awards, Globes trophies, five Emmy Awards, and a Tony, is set to receive another prestigious accolade to her collection: the Cecil B. DeMille Globes' lifetime achievement award.
Honors Presentation
Dame Helen, 80, formerly made a dame in 2003 and named a BAFTA fellow in the year 2014, will accept the accolade in a ceremony on 8 January, shortly before the main Golden Globes are held, during a ceremony promoted by the Globes as Golden Eve.
Also part of the event will be the awarding of the organization’s Carol Burnett honor for small-screen contributions, the recipient of which has yet to be announced. The prior year’s honorees featured Viola Davis along with Ted Danson.
“Helen Mirren is an unstoppable talent, and her professional journey is absolutely exceptional,” stated the Golden Globes president, president of the Golden Globes. “Her captivating roles and dedication to acting continue to inspire generations of artists and audiences alike. It’s a tremendous privilege to bestow upon her the Cecil B DeMille award.”
Professional Journey
Mirren gained prominence back in the 70s via important performances in stage productions in London’s theater district and with the RSC and in films like O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.
In the 1990s, her prominent part in the investigative show Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase significantly. Other important films feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.
She earned an Academy Award for her portrayal as Queen Elizabeth II in the cinematic work The Queen, a role she revisited during 2013 within The Audience, the theatrical work from Peter Morgan regarding the encounters with the Queen and premier Margaret Thatcher, a role for which she earned a Tony back in 2015.
Current and Forthcoming Appearances
- Later-career movies feature Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda and Barbie, for which she provided narration.
- Mirren’s turn in the Netflix version for The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised with award talk is building regarding her role as a terminally ill matriarch in the film by Kate Winslet first directing effort, Goodbye June.
- Next year, she will appear as Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s drama, Switzerland.
Globes nominations will be declared December 8, including Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners anticipated to be prominent.
