Well beyond 14 days subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community continue to honor the couple.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt able to share openly about his deep grief.
"Adequate time has passed that I can finally articulate my loss into words," shared Elwes, saying that his introductory moment with Reiner created an instant bond. "Once we started passing more hours together I realized this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor uploaded behind-the-scenes footage from the movie, remarking that he doesn't recollect "a single day without mirth".
"The movie is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Values that Rob cherished deeply. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to guide it," Elwes wrote.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I recall you." He concluded with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Fellow Artist
In a different essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked seamlessly with his co-stars, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles judge agreed to block the disclosure of the Reiners' autopsy reports, following a petition from the LAPD.
A judicial mandate put a restriction on the investigation to restrict the public release of "all case details, documents, files or images" associated with the ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the outcome of murder, with a public database listing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Aftermath and Reactions
In the wake of the killings, public figures offered different reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, making provocative statements that were widely condemned by several public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the detractors recently. Speaking on his program, Rogan characterized the remarks as "shocking" and implied they demonstrated a worrisome deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan concluded by suggesting that an aide should have intervened when the decision to speak on the tragedy was made.
