Hodgkinson achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in London.

Keely Hodgkinson concluded her 800m campaign with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured bronze at the World Championships last month, excelled in an outstanding victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a year impacted by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell finished second once more in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) claimed third.

"I've barely raced this season so it was probably easier for me to go out there and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."

The women-only event packed the stadium in its second edition, introducing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was present to present the winners with their crowns.

Previous champions took home $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.

The competition also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon won the mile, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, won the sprint double.
