New England Equal Longest Victory Run From Brady Years with Win Over Jets
First-year player Henderson has scored five TDs during the current campaign
New England matched their best victory streak since the Brady era as they beat AFC East rivals the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the New England squad secured an eight-game winning streak for the first time since star signal-caller Tom Brady's closing campaign with the franchise in the 2019 season
Quarterback Drake Maye passed for 281 yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
Victory extends the Patriots advantage at the top of the division as they moved to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets bottom after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The opposing team had scored first at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Justin Fields running in a short rushing score to finish the Jets' opening drive
But the home team fought back in the second period as Henderson scored two seven-yard TDs before the running back hauled in a throw from Maye at the back of the endzone midway through the third quarter to make it 21 to 7
"It was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of Henderson. "He desires to be great."
Fields found John Metchie in the latter part of the third quarter to close the gap for the Jets but Borregales converted a two kicks in the final period as the Patriots sealed the triumph
