An Australian man who jumped past a barrier and reached for Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been deported and barred from Singapore.

The man, aged 26, was handed a penalty to nine days in detention for being a public nuisance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," Singaporean immigration authorities told news outlets.

Wen pushed beyond security and approached aggressively the celebrity, who was attending the regional launch for Wicked: For Good on 13 November. Co-star Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.

He has a background of causing disturbances at events and celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the pop star's Australian show in June this year.

The incident caused anger in Singapore, with several individuals accusing him of triggering past trauma for the singer.

During Wen's trial, the authorities learned he had attempted to intrude on the movie's debut twice, according to regional reports.

He then made a another effort to jump the barricades. Security staff stopped him and held him in place.

Wen later posted video clips thanking Grande for permitting his access and said he was "at liberty."

Law enforcement took him into custody the next day and brought charges against him with disorderly conduct, to which Wen pleaded guilty.

The Court Judge Christopher Goh was quoted by media reports as remarking that Wen was "attention seeking", adding that he was wrong to think he would not experience repercussions.

The actress has not commented on the situation.

Cynthia Erivo discussed the event to a media outlet, stating that she "simply desired to make sure my colleague was protected."

"I believe he didn't mean us danger, but you cannot be certain with such situations, and I wanted to make sure that she was fine. That was my immediate response," she said.
