Severe Rains Aggravate Circumstances for Uprooted Palestinians in Gaza, Officials Alert
Intense storms over the past week have intensified the extremely difficult circumstances of the many hundreds of thousands of displaced residents in the territory, as reported by humanitarian groups.
"Horrendous" Conditions Creates Severe Risks
A representative detailed the recent storm as "terrible", with precipitation so heavy that around 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the ground.
"The recent weather was truly horrendous for the families. The downpours were so intense... And the winds were so forceful," noted the official.
Officials express grave anxiety that children residing in temporary structures in soaked garments will contract hypothermia and additional ailments.
Deaths and Significant Damage
Health authorities have confirmed that one baby has died from the cold and no fewer than 11 other people have died in building collapses triggered by the severe weather.
Further statements put a higher number of casualties. Officials reported that numerous residential buildings had fully given way and scores had been partly destroyed.

Aid Distribution Considered Inadequate
Agencies have increased distribution of shelter, blankets and garments following the truce commenced, but they stress there is continues to be not enough aid reaching those in need.
"Agencies are working relentlessly to deliver that relief and to allocate it, but the magnitude of the needs is so enormous that we still have thousands of people and children who are truly suffering each evening," stated one official.
Future Challenges and Truce Provisions
The subsequent part of the ceasefire involves arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with future administration, the pullback of personnel, and other conditions.
Relief groups have stressed the imperative for "expanded and ongoing aid to meet immediate and future needs."
The conflict was triggered by an attack in late 2023. Subsequent military operations have led to a substantial number of fatalities in the area, as per health ministry data.
