Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position following a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got significant support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
