Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Labels Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Supporters'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on Frank
Spurs supporters who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed later "those individuals can't be real Spurs supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.
Tottenham conceded two goals in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th Premier League at home defeat of 2025.
But the main talking point was the visitors' next score when Vicario gave away the ball well outside his area.
He came out to handle a high pass and carried the ball near the touchline.
However, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italian spun and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by King.
King passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the touchline measured at 36.6 metres.
Seconds later when the ball came to Vicario again, some Spurs supporters jeered him.
Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.
One of those jeering episodes truly angered Frank.
"It came to my attention a few of our supporters apparently jeered the incident and jeered following, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Dane commented regarding the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"[They] cannot be true Tottenham fans that do that. Fair enough jeering after the match, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are behind each other moving ahead."
Tete had handed the visitors a fourth-minute lead prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second-half showing.
Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Hart stated that the second score was "completely preventable".
"I certainly appreciate the fans' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I am aware the part the keeper is playing. He's a great squad member, he is a real figure in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily involved in what ended up to be the decisive score."
'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game
Italian international the keeper is in his third season with Spurs.
The 29-year-old stated after the match that he had to take the feedback.
"That score was a error of my own, I take responsibility for that," he said.
"My aim was to clear the ball long and I just struck the ball in a poor manner. It was an more difficult challenge to overcome."
He said receiving jeers "is part of the game".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he added. "We cannot be affected by the situation in the crowd. Supporters have the entitlement to do as they see fit.
"It's on the team to stay increasingly composed, to focus on ourselves. The team is lacking in composure and calmness to overturn results. Today is a bad defeat and it is tough to take."
'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Line'
In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was far from an simple goal for Wilson to score.
In fact it was the next longest-range top division goal of the season – following Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which incidentally too came on Saturday.
The goalscorer stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.
Ten seconds passed between Vicario exiting of his area and the midfielder striking – which was 5 seconds following the clearance.
"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was away from the area for a long time," Wilson said.
"I was surprised not one of the back four went back to the goal line. When not one of them defended the net, my eyes lit up a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a little additional time. Then it was all about trying to achieve the correct contact and place it on target. I felt a good sense, the moment it left my foot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Go Against You'
Jeering While We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager
Although Vicario's mistake led headlines, this was an overall poor performance for Tottenham to extend their home struggles.
The match was their 10th home loss of 2025 in the league, a shared team statistic along with nineteen ninety-four and 2003.
The side still have home fixtures against the manager's old side the Bees and title holders Liverpool to come before the end of the season.
Just a single of those wins have occurred since Frank took over from his predecessor in the off-season.
"If you are behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated the boss.
"When you're in a bad spell, everything seems to go against you too – the opening was a deflected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.
"This result puts us in a place where we have suffered an additional game. Each fixture has a single story, today we were defeated in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and hopefully something we can utilize to develop."
Spurs have lost four consecutive home capital clashes for the first time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are recording 9.5 attempts and three point two efforts on goal per match in the Premier League – their lowest averages on record in a single season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Former Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He must take the criticism," the pundit said. "He's accepted a prestigious role at a huge team with massive anticipation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.
"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
