Top-ranked Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – which included retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the world number one, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the season with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a record eleven million pounds in earnings.
She earned almost 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after capturing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
