UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a girl containing multiple human souls within her must escape from a maze of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four separate souls, all possessing their own anxieties and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on showcased footage, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips depict the main character navigating a desolate chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The core mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will change involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's fears become amplified and attack the protagonist one after another. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by orderlies who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have large flowers growing from their necks should be. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players believes a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because every entity can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The final entity remaining might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
