A brace by Donyell Malen guided the home side toward direct advancement into the knockout stage of the European competition against a backdrop of fan disturbances from Young Boys supporters.

The Netherlands striker showcased Villa’s greater squad depth, but this 10th win in twelve matches was marred by away supporters ripping up stadium seating, hurling missiles at stewards and Villa players, and clashing with police.
